CASA Named New Member Agency of Heart of Illinois United Way—November 21, 2011

The Heart of Illinois United Way has accepted CASA of Peoria County as a new member agency. The Heart of Illinois United Way supports local programs and services that address critical health and human care needs in our community – helping more than 1,100 people every day throughout Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, Marshall, Stark and Putnam counties. CASA of Peoria County is a strong and growing organization that provides a much needed service to our community, and an organization that HOIUW can be proud of as a member agency. CASA to Host Nine Hole, Par 3 Challenge & $1 Million Hole-in-One Shootout at Country Club of Peoria—October 6, 2011

The top ten foursomes will select a team member to participate in the “final shoot out” for the $1 million contest. Finalists will take one shot each at sinking a hole-in-one. The first finalist to make a hole-in-one will win the contest’s grand prize of $1,000,000 cash to share with their foursome. The presenting sponsor for the event is Par-A-Dice. Court Appointed Special Advocates of Peoria County takes a stand to ensure that every child has a safe and permanent home—December 2010

People hear about them almost every day in the newspaper, on television or in the news—the abused and neglected children within the juvenile court system and the attorneys appointed to defend them. But much less is heard about the men and women who volunteer their time to serve on those children’s behalf, the everyday heroes who advocate for the rights of young people, fight for their welfare and act on the belief that every child has the right to fulfill his or her potential. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) to Host Hole-in-One and Putting Contests at WeaverRidge Golf Club—April 21, 2010

CASA will host a hole-in-one and a putting contest at WeaverRidge Golf Club. Hole-in-one qualifying rounds will be held Thursday, May 13 through Saturday, May 15 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The five contest entrants hitting closest to the pin each day will qualify as a finalist to participate in the "final shoot out" on Sunday, May 16 at 10 a.m. Finalists will take one shot each at sinking a hole-in-one. The first finalist to make a hole in-one will win the contest's grand prize of either $100,000 cash or two automobiles from Bob Lindsey Acura, with a combined value not to exceed $100,000. CASA to Celebrate Everyday Heroes at Peoria Chiefs Game--April 27, 2010

CASA of Peoria County invites the community to celebrate Everyday Heroes on Wednesday, May 5, at a Peoria Chiefs baseball game at O'Brien Field. The game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Winners from CASA's Everyday Heroes contest will be recognized during the game. The contest encouraged Peoria area students to write a brief essay or draw a picture of their Everyday Hero-whether it was a teacher, parent, coach or friend. The winning stories will be read prior to game start time and the drawings will also be on display. (View full press release)

Join Hands, Help Children—April 1, 2010
Help raise awareness of child abuse by joining "Hands Around the Courthouse" on Friday, April 16, at noon in the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza, 324 Main Street, downtown Peoria. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Youth Services Network Panel is hosting its 3rd Annual Hands Around the Courthouse event to draw attention to the 1048 pending child abuse and neglect cases in Peoria County. People interested in participating in the event should meet by the fountains in the Courthouse Plaza by noon. (View full press release)

 

CASA of Peoria County Launches New Web Site—March 17, 2010
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Peoria County has launched a significantly upgraded Web site in terms of ease of use and look-and-feel. The new Web site, www.casapeoria.org, offers site visitors a comprehensive overview of CASA, makes donating easy and provides online resources for CASA volunteers. The site also gives visitors the opportunity to sign-up for electronic updates, view videos and learn more about the fundraising events being hosted by CASA. The Web site’s development, hosting and ongoing site maintenance was donated entirely by Lisa Murphy Web Design, a Peoria Web Design company. (View full press release)

 

CASA of Peoria County Announces Two New Board Members—March 17, 2010
CASA of Peoria County recently announced the appointment of Valerie E. Clark and Dr. Nancy E. Sherman to its board of directors. "The addition of Ms. Clark and Dr. Sherman to CASA of Peoria County’s Board of Directors ensures CASA will continue to benefit from a diversity of knowledge and opinions. Valerie and Nancy are perfect fits for CASA because of their strong leadership skills and extensive experience," said Pamela Perrilles, Executive Director of CASA of Peoria County. CASA Awarded $40,000 Grant—December 10, 2009
CASA of Peoria County was awarded a $40,000 grant Wednesday from the National CASA Association. The grant will provide funding assistance to serve abused and neglected children in Peoria County.

 

Help Keep This CASA Running—Peoria Journal Star, April 25, 2009
At the end of last year, there were 1,240 pending abuse and neglect cases in Peoria County's juvenile courts. "Our per capita number is higher than Cook County," says Chris Monroe.

Hurting kids is not the place to be No. 1. That's why Monroe wants to invite you into his CASA. In Spanish, "casa" means house. In the legal system, it means Court Appointed Special Advocates. Either way, CASA means shelter for kids who sometimes have none. (View full article)
